OFF WITH THE TOP OF MY HEAD!

WHAT UP WORLD!

The second week of the new year and nothing but good stuff thus far. Anyone play "DARKSIDERS" yet? if not then go out and buy it or you're going to regret it. Some guy by the name of Joe Madureira, former comic book artist for Uncanny X-Men back in the 90's and more recently Ultimates 3, designed this amazing game and it's Zelda during the apocalypse on crack!

Did anyone see the news about "Brightest Day", the new 26 issue bi-weekly book that DC is doing? The White Lantern Corps symbol is pretty cool.
Thanks to Babyface Jones for the heads up on that.

Anyways, not a huge week but some really good stuff hit shelves this week.

First up some "Blackest Night" tie-ins.

THE POWER OF SHAZAM #48

You may or may not remember a little character named Osiris from "52". He just happened to be the brother of Black Adam's wife Isis and the one of the main reasons why Black Adam went nuts and destroyed Kahndaq. Osiris was murdered by his then best friend, Sobek. Osiris is resurrected via the Black Lantern ring and has no idea what's going on.He begins to look for Adam and Isis and finds that Kahndaq is mostly destroyed and nothing like he remembers before his death. . In the swamps where Black Adam dumped his body, Sobek is also brought back to life. Osiris is distraught after seeing the stone figures which used to be Black Adam and Isis. Oddly enough he's able to stave off the commands from the ring to devour. He and Sobek meet up and battle it out. He comes to realize that Sobek was the one who killed him and is now entirely confused at what's happening. After Sobek tells him what they are now and what they're meant to do, Osisris does what he feels is the most heroic thing possible before Sobek can kill him, He says the magic name that gave him his powers "BLACK ADAM!". In doing so, Osiris kills himself and Sobek.
I really enjoyed this issue, I thought it was a bit short but worth the read. I wish they would've done more with Osiris since he seemed to stave off the hunger, maybe because of his magical connections? Only time will tell.

CATWOMAN #83

Selina Kyle has only one regret in life, Killing the original Black Mask. Now it's come back to haunt her, in the undead sense. Risen from the grave thanks to the Black Lantern ring, Roman Sionis aka The Black Mask is back and looking to give Catwoman what she deserves. During a black out caused by the emergence of the Black Lanterns, Selina does what any cat burglar would do and takes advantage of the situation. As she's leaving a museum, she's attacked by the Black Lantern Black Mask. She's holding her own against him but not for much longer. She sends up a signal flare to alert Harley and Ivy that she needs help. They show up and save her. Selina realizes that he's going to go after the one person that will truly hurt her, her sister Maggie Kyle. Maggie watched as Black Mask tortured her husband and then fed her his eyeballs. Maggie has been in an asylum since the event. After a long battle, Ivy finally gets Black Mask in a Pitcher Plant. He's constantly being digested as the black ring brings him back. The end of the story gives way to a new villain. Maggie Kyle steals a nuns uniform and now has a mission to "destroy the demon that calls itself CATWOMAN".
I was a fan of the Catwoman series, I was sad to see it canceled but happy to see it replaced with "Gotham City Sirens". This issue was pretty good and the ramifications from it seem like they're going to have some affect on that series in the coming year. The artwork is what really makes this issue. Fabrizio Fiorentino, Ibraim Robersn, Marcos Marz and Luciana Del Negro all doing such an amazing job illustrating this issue. This book had me at the first page.

SECRET SIX #17

Rolling right along from last weeks issue of "Suicide Squad", The Six are at Belle Reve fighting for their lives against Amanda Waller's new squad while Scandal Savage holds her own against Waller as she's attempting to force Scandal to give herself up. The recently resurrected Black Lantern members of The Suicide Squad are making short work of the prison guards and inmates at Belle Reve. Recently killed and resurrected Yasemin Soze is searching for her killer and the star of these issues; Deadshot. After a long and illustrious tumble between The Six, The Suicide Squad and the Black Lanterns, King Farraday, Waller's Knight at Checkmate alerts her about the Black Lantern situation and that they'll need a "Green Lantern level light to wreck these rings."
Another great issue courtesy of Gail Simone, John Ostrander and Jim Calafiore. The story continues in next months issue. Being a fan of The Suicide Squad and The Secret Six, I can't wait to see what happens. This is probably MY most anticipated "Blackest Night" tie-ins.

Also to grace selves this week were a couple of notable number one issues,

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: THREE WORLD WAR #1

Aliens and Predator fans rejoice! Finally a series worth the title AVP!
This new series picks up from AVP: WAR from 1995. Machiko Noguchi is the only survivor of the mining colony on Ryushi. She and a Predator named "Broken Tusk" took out the Alien hive on the planet. Right before his death "Broken Tusk" marked her with his clans symbol. She was accepted by his clan and hunted with them til they reached Bunda, where they began hunting humans along with their prey; The Xenomorphs.
The Colonial Marines track her down ten years after the events of Bunda and ask for her help. A separatist clan of hunters known as "KILLERS" has surfaced with the Xenomorph prey under their control and began to kill humans and not for sport.
ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: WAR was my first comic adaptation of the movie franchises. I'm so excited to see Dark Horse pick up a character and a storyline that's fifteen years old. If you've never read AVP: WAR it's available in trade now. Do yourself a favor and read it because it's a great story and the background to this story.

JUST BECAUSE I'M A HUGE 27 YEAR OLD BABY AND I LOVE THE MUPPET SHOW!

THE MUPPET SHOW ONGOING SERIES #1

The Muppet's theater is under construction and the show must go on...the road. Kermit and company take the show on the road, their first stop, a piece of land owned by Mr. Weazell who haunts Kermit for the $300 he's owned for allowing the Muppet's usage of his land. Fonzie dips out to go off on his own to do some street performing because he thinks he needs to stand out on his own for once. The show goes on and as usual things go awry. Miss Piggy is very displeased with the situation and feels that because they're not in the theater atmosphere that her performance isn't going to be what it should. Kermit rents some caravans for the show and one of them has a tiger hiding in it. Rizzo the rat is taking bets on who's trailer it's in. Sure enough it winds up in Gonzo's trailer.
As usual the madness of the show is hilarious and brings back so many memories of watching the television series as a child. Adult fans who want to relive being a kid and kids who don't know the fun and hilarity of The Muppets need to get your hands on this book because it's amazing.

SUPER HERO SQUAD THE ONGOING #1

Taking the characters and story of the mini versions of our favorite Marvel characters, The Superhero Squad is laugh out loud funny. It's silly, kiddie humor that makes even the most grown man laugh. The first story in this issue is about how Dr. Doom plans on going back in time and getting the Infinity Sword before it broke and use it to take over the world. The Squaddies show up and everyone gets turned into a baby. It's hilarious. The second story is about how Dr. Doom plans on using The Grey Gargoyle's ability to turn people into stone for an hour so that they can steal the fractals from SHIELD. Another great use of slapstick comedy as the heroes get turned into stone and the Silver Surfer's surfboard gets to become a hero in it's own right. The third story is about how SHIELD wants a way to clean up after Hulk, because he's constantly destroying things on the helicarrier. Iron Man creates a robot that follows Hulk and repairs all the damage he does. Hulk gets annoyed and it's so funny.
I'm sure everyone has seen the show and you all love it but you need to read the comic. Writer Todd Dezago does a BANG UP job of making these mini marvels even funnier.
