Previews and Reviews with Gore Jones

Hello and welcome back to another exciting edition of Previews and Reviews with yours truly. Last week was a pretty awesome week in comics, lets get down to it shall we.

Blackest Night Tales Of The Corps #3 (of 3)

Finishing off the three issue miniseries giving back stories to the different corps in the universe, This issue is a jip! There is only two stories in it. Back stories on Kilowog and Arisia, two GREEN LANTERNS! Not like the stories were bad but the fact that the other two issues gave you three stories on different characters within the different corps was cool, this is just like a filler issue almost as if it were a Secret Files issue. Needless to say it's over so it doesn't even matter at this point.

Justice Society of America #29

Excited Much?? I know I am. Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges take the helm of JSA and oh boy do they bring the rukus like no one can. Wildcat gets called out and brings the majority of the team with him in what at first seems like a simple "beat up the bad guy and call it a day" becomes a full blown battle between the JSA and it almost seems like every villain in the DCU. I'm glad Bill and Matt are on the book to fill the void left by Geoff Johns. I've raved about this book since it was restarted but if you need a good jumping on point this is it!

Dark X-Men The Begining #2

Another series fleshing out characters on a newly formed team. In this issue we get to see just how Norman Osborn "convinced" Cloak, Dagger, Daken and Weapon Omega to join his X-Men. Cloak and Dagger are in South America burning poppy fields when old Normie comes and persuades them that he'll give them all the intel and government help to destroy whatever drug dealers and their crops as possible. Daken is given a taste of the perks that being a part of Osborn's crew gets and lastly Weapon Omega is trying to make up for killing all those people (including Alpha Flight) when he was taken over by the collective by working construction. What does Old Normie do? He unleashes MGH (Mutant Growth Hormone) into the air turning all of his co-workers into mutants and in turn, turning W.O's power on. Sneaky bastard. I love Norman Osborn.

Your Songbird, you're being hunted by your former team which isn't even your old team. You've got nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. You've been shot out of the sky when you're confronted by The Black Widow and not the good one until.....SHE IS NATASHA ROMANOV, THE BLACK WIDOW and guess who she's working for...NICK F'N FURY!!!

Ultimatum #5

Five issues took almost what a year and a half? Was it worth it? Did it make sense? Should you care about what happened to the Ultimate Universe?.....The answer is YES!!! Many heroes died, things you'd never ever seen in the 616 Marvel Universe happen that will make you say "oh sh.." David Finch's art is amazing and you can't wait to read the Relaunches of Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Avengers! It was a long time but well worth the wait.

On a side note; reading the new issue of Wizard, they had an article about Bill Mantlo who wrote and created Cloak and Dagger being in the hospital because he was the victim of a hit and run in Manhattan not to long ago. I was saddened by it because Marvel recently released the prestige HC to the Cloak and Dagger Miniseries and I'd just begun to re-read the issues. If you've never read it you need to go to the store and get a copy of it. Bill was ahead of his time with these characters and I'm telling you, you won't be disappointed.
