Previews and Reviews with Gore Jones

Did anyone watch True Blood last night?? Amazing. I hate that I find myself sucked into a tv show but alas I am and it's worth the hour of my life. If you're not watching this show, this Sunday July 5th, they're showing all 3 episodes of season 2 in a row. Check it out. Now onto the comics that rocked and shit that should've been left on a shelf somewhere...

Gotham City Sirens #1

Yet another #1 for the Batman family of books coming out of Bruce Wayne's apparent "death". Paul Dini again steering the ship on this book. I'm really glad he is because the man created Harley Quinn and no one writes her like he does. This is the begining of a, I'd say "less hero Birds of Prey". The "team" consists of Catwoman, Harley and Poison Ivy. Criminals that have had changes of heart and have a common threat; Two Face, Penguin and The Black Mask. Good start to the series and really worth checking out.

Detective Comics #854

Continuing Detective Comics is Greg Rucka with Batwoman. Thank GOD! I really liked his run on Checkmate and the Books of Blood along with F.C Revelations. Spinning out of Revelations we find Batwoman in Gotham not trying to fill the void left by Bruce but to take care of The Crime Bible Cult that threatens to take over Gotham if left unchecked. Greg Rucka has a great way of writting superhero books with real human emotions attached to the characters involved. Batwoman in my opinion is a great character and I'm glad she gets the spot light for the time being..

Avengers Initiative #25

Wow...So Norman Osborn is now using the staff and concept of Camp Hammond to begin training VILLIANS to pose as Heroes and semi-sorta save the day..Ballsy to say the least. I really cant wait to see what goes down when you have so many criminals in one spot with the power to basically do anything. Amazing...

Dark Wolverine #75

THANK GOD! I was really starting to get annoyed that Daken was being so overshadowed in Dark Avengers and as the ever running "anti-hero villian" in Wolverine Origins. I'm so glad to see that this ruthless, mean uncaring character finally gets his due. It's awesome how he messes with Bullseye. I cannot wait to see what happens next.. Get on this now!

Dark Avengers / Uncanny X-Men Utopia

Anyone as glad as me to see this come out? Finally it really seems like we're heading straight towards the anti-mutant internment camp, Bishop future we've all been waiting for. Amazing. If you slept on this your a fool. Great jumping on point for people interested in the Dark Avengers or the X-Men.

Previews and Reviews with Gore Jones

What's up people?

Back again for another exciting installment of my rants and raves about the good and the bad in this weeks books.

Batman: Streets of Gotham #1

Another #1 issue comes out this week for the revamped line of Batman titles. This one being penned by none other than the best Batman scribe out there; Paul Dini. This book takes the role of "Gotham Central" meets "Legends of the dark knight" in my opinion. It has more of a street level feel to it. All in all the story starts off pretty solid and moves pretty quick. I think this is going to be one of the more sought after books coming out this year so don't get left behind.
4 out of 5

Cable #15

This is the 6th part of the "Messiah War" story arc and damn does it get really good. This book and this story line actually made me go back and re-read a bunch of old stories one of which is the "Fall of the mutants" which I think they're drawing some ideas from. I really can't wait to see what happens in the last chapter.....
5 out of 5

Captain America #600

I had to do it, this being the anniversary issue of Steve Rogers death and a pivital point in Cap in general, I had to say my piece. I really like Bucky as Cap. I feel he brings a whole new dynamic to Captain America as well as The New Avengers. I think it was a smart thing to kill Steve and give Bucky the title of Cap for the sheer fact that with the changing of times, we have to move forward and sometimes do things you would'nt normally expect (like Bucky using a gun). I don't think Steve's death was b.s. nor do I feel cheated that Marvel along with most newspapers have already said he's coming back in "Rebirth". Good! There's so many possibilities with him coming back in a dozen different situations. Make Mine Marvel. They have my full support! There I said it! hahaha. Now as far as the issue itself it was awesome any fan of Captain America new or old this is great jumping on point. Go NOW!
5 out of 5

X-Men Origins: Gambit #1

I started re-reading the big X-men storylines looking for stuff that has some relavance to the "Messiah War" story arc. One of them being the "Mutant Massacre". In this issue we see in detail Gambit being used by Mr. Sinister to gather the Mauraders and lead the into the Morlock tunnels. Other than that it doesnt really give any more insight on Gambit himself. All in all a good read.
3 out of 5

Invincible #63

Wow! This is the 3rd part of the "Conquest" story arc and if your a fan of the book you're going to be sad. Wow... I can't tell you anything. Just read this book!!!
5 out of 5!!!

now my picks for next week:

Gotham City Sirens #1
X-Force #16
New Avengers #54
X-Factor #45
Predator #1

Thanks for hanging and hit me up with comments, questions, WHATEVER!!!

Previews and Reviews with Gore Jones

Herro Shilren!

Back again for another installment of my rants and raves about what rocked and what sucked in comics. On a side note, make sure you watch True Blood tonight @ 9! It's going to be awesome and it's the only "tv show" I watch so yeah...

Batman#687

I'm going to quote my brother on this one "This should have come out before Batman and Robin #1" and "Thank God Judd Winick is back on Batman, I can finally buy it again". This issue really should've come out before "Batman and Robin" did for the sheer fact that it actually explains what happened at the end of "Battle for the cowl". I'm really happy to have Judd Winick back on Batman as well as Ed Benes doing the artwork. I can't ruin the story for you but it's worth all the b.s Grant Morrison put us loyal readers through.

Red Robin #1

Chris Yost doing a Dc book is probably the smartest thing they've done this year. His writting is captivating and encompasses everything going in the story within the short 22 pgs comics hold. This book picks up with Tim WAYNE going to Europe to clear his head after everything thats gone on and is going on back home in Gotham as the newly guised RED ROBIN (which he chose to seperate himself from Bruce and the rest of the family so there's not link between him and them) Damn this book was good. Chris Yost bangs this one out of the park for sure.

Ok, I really liked this book when it first came out. Judd Winick left and it was mediocre. Now it just sucks! Why does Cyborg need a solo story with so much shit going on in the DCU?? Why?? For what reason?!! GARBAGE!!!

War of Kings Savage World of Skaar

Let's be realistic here, I love the Galactic Marvel Universe. I've been saying since "Annihilation" that it's about time they did something and revamped some old unused characters but come on... To have Gorgon and Starbolt crash land on Saakar and have the typical "enemy of my enemy is my friend" is bullshit! Come on this book could've been a lot better. A Lot Better! sorry folks..
